Odegaard joined Real Madrid from Stromsgodset in a £2.3 million deal.

Real Madrid's 16-year-old prodigy in limbo

The youngster was left out of the club’s Champions League squad to face Malmo.

REAL MADRID WONDERKID Martin Odegaard has been left in limbo after he wasn’t included in the Champions League squad to face Malmo or the club’s Uefa Youth League selection.

The 16-year-old joined the club from Norwegian side Stromsgodset in a £2.3 million deal in January after making his professional debut aged just 15.

He immediately began training with Madrid’s first team and made his debut as a substitute on the final day of last season in a 7-3 victory over Getafe in La Liga.

However, he has been unable to make an impact this term under new boss Rafa Benitez, who didn’t include him in his squad for Wednesday’s trip to Malmo.

The Spaniard opted for youngsters Borja Mayoral and Marcos Llorente in his place, despite naming Odegaard on his Champions League list for the group stage of the competition.

The midfielder has also been left out of the Under-19s Uefa Youth League squad and will continue to play under Zinedine Zidane for the club’s Castilla side.
