GAELIC FOOTBALLERS WILL be able to call a โmarkโ when catching a ball cleanly from a kick out after Congress voted to approve the motion this afternoon.
The new rule means that players will have the option of taking a free kick (within five seconds) or playing on immediately when a โplayer catches the ball cleanly from a kick-out โ without it touching the ground โ on or past the 45m line nearest the kick-out point.โ
The new rule will be introduced without a trial and was supported by 68% of attendees, just above the two-thirds majority required.
If a player indicates he wishes to take a mark, he will be allowed up to five seconds to take the kick. If the player delays for longer than five seconds, the referee will cancel the mark and play will restart with a throw-ball.
Once a mark is called, the opposing team must retreat 10m and, if they impede the player who called the mark, the referee will move the ball forward 13m.
If a player chooses to play on, they cannot be challenged until they carry the ball four consecutive steps or holds the ball for longer than the time needed to make four step and makes โone act of kicking, hand passing, bouncing or toe-tapping the ball.โ

Ah another disappointing move for a promising u21 playerโฆ. I donโt know a lot about second division Swiss football, but it doesnโt sound like a great levelโฆ.
@Augustus hoop: football isnโt just confined to England. Fair play to him going for more unorthodox move, Conor looks very promising so hopefully gets hes break and has a good future. Grasshoppers are a relatively big club too
@Denis Cremin: swiss football is muck so he has a very good shot at making a real go of it. The wages are excellent though and all the good players get snapped up by german clubs. The league itself was historically a retirement home for german players looking for a last low tax payday but they started to focus alot more on younger players so the standard gradually dropped. Zรผrich itself is little more than a town with two football clubs who are far off being world beaters. FcZ are not that much better than grasshoppers even though they are a division above. The main teams are YB and basel nowadays. Stadiums are great also so in ralaity the only thing second rate is the football
@Denis Cremin: unorthodox doesnโt always mean good, second division Swiss football sounds more like out of sight out of mind, decent player but to progress needs to cut out the loans and get something permanent at a higher/better level than this
@Denis Cremin: my issue isnโt that he is moving away from England โ I welcome that โ my issue is as I say in the comment, that he is moving to a level that he should be better than based on what Iโve seen โ irrespective of how big the club is.
Itโs the same as lee OโConnor going to league 2
@Augustus hoop: good experience for him playing abroad, was in Slovakia last season and he did well in the games I could find streams for.
The one player in the u21s that gets me off my seat,
Cracking technical player.
