Mario Mandzukic scored one of the greatest Champions League final goals in a long time

The strike summed up a rip-roaring, absorbing first-half.

Updated 2240

FOR THE FIRST-HALF at least, it was a superb Uefa Champions League final with Juventus and Real Madrid locked in an absorbing, old-school battle.

There was plenty of free-flowing, end-to-end football and it was the Spaniards who went in front thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo’s ice-cool finish after a one-two with Dani Carvajal.

But Juventus responded superbly just a few minutes later when Croatian attacker Mario Mandzukic conjured one of the finest finals goals we’ve seen in a long time.

The ball didn’t touch the ground as a cross was volleyed into the area from the left side, controlled expertly by Gonzalo Higuain, teed it up for Mandzukic who flung himself in the air and swept a brilliant overhead kick to the net.
