Mario Balotelli given compassionate leave following adoptive father's death

MARIO BALOTELLI HAS been granted compassionate leave by Liverpool after the death of his adoptive father Francesco.

The 24-year-old was notable by his absence as Brendan Rodgers and his squad returned to Melwood for the start of pre-season on Monday, having been granted extra time off to come to terms with losing one of the foster parents who cared for him from the age of three.
