Man City players reveal fascinating insight into new era under Pep Guardiola

The Catalan has implemented some dietary and logistical changes.

WHILE EVERYONE KNOWS Pep Guardiola will have a dramatic influence on how Manchester City play, he’s already been responsible for implementing a number of off-field changes.

A number of players have revealed some of the finer details about the Catalan coach’s tenure so far.

One element Guardiola is looking to improve is team spirit. According to Willy Caballero, the players will now all have a post-game meal together before returning home.

In previous regimes, they would all leave immediately after the match.

“Sometimes we finish and go home and arrive two hours later at our homes because of traffic”, the goalkeeper said.

Other logistics before their Saturday fixture against Sunderland were altered too.

City did not stay at their Etihad Campus training ground hotel the night before – as they’ve done since October 2014. Instead, they stayed at home with their families – something Guardiola feels can reduce nervousness in players.

They also took in a light training session on the morning of the game.

And while the City players were used to snacking on pizza in the dressing-room after games, Guardiola has urged them to eat almonds and hazelnuts instead and has also cut out some juices from the players’ diets.
