Retro Deal of the Day: Michu to Swansea

Soccer - Barclays Premier League - Crystal Palace v Swansea City - Selhurst Park Michu was once among the Premier League's most highly-rated attackers. Nigel French Nigel French

Michu was one of the Premier League players of the season in the 2012-13 campaign, having been signed by then-Swansea boss Michael Laudrup for a bargain of £2m from Rayo Vallecano.

But after managing 18 goals in 35 appearances amid a phenomenal Premier League debut season, he was never the same player again.

In the following campaign, he registered just two goals in 17 appearances for the Welsh side. A loan move to Napoli was a flop, as he managed just six competitive appearances for the Italian side, with injuries severely hampering the player’s progress.

After being released by Swansea in November 2015, Michu signed up with fourth-tier Asturian amateur side UP Langreo.

Having impressed on his return with nine goals in 16 appearances, Michu was signed by his boyhood club Real Oviedo, who are currently in the Spanish second division, back in August.

The 30-year-old has subsequently managed one goal in 14 appearances this season for his latest club.
