Liverpool tear Man City apart in extraordinary first-half at the Ethiad

The Reds recorded a hugely impressive 4-1 victory in the day’s late kick-off.

JURGEN KLOPP AND Liverpool ran riot at the Ethiad Stadium to stun Manchester City with a rampant display.

The visitors were rewarded for a positive and purposeful side as they raced into a 3-0 lead, although Sergio Aguero’s strike just before the interval had given City hope.

Eliaquim Mangala’s early own goal set the tone as Liverpool picked holes in City’s vulnerable defence before Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino then extended the Reds’ advantage.

From the outset, Liverpool dominated proceedings but they were left to rue a lapse in concentration as Aguero reduced the deficit.

The Argentina striker capitalised on a poor clearance from Martin Skrtel before firing past Simon Mignolet from range.

It proved to be merely a consolation as Liverpool held firm after the interval and then sealed the win through Martin Skrtel’s thumping volley in the closing stages.
