Luke Shaw's Man United future in doubt as Jose Mourinho criticises him again

There has been tension between player and coach ever since the Portuguese arrived at Old Trafford last summer.

LUKE SHAW’S FUTURE at Manchester United seems to be dangling by a thread after Jose Mourinho criticised the left-back once again and questioned his commitment to the club.

The 21-year-old last played against Bournemouth last month and Mourinho told reporters that the defender is a ‘long way behind’ other United defenders like Daley Blind and Matteo Darmian who are trying to push for a first-team place.

“I cannot compare the way he trains and commits, the focus, the ambition. He is a long way behind”, Mourinho said.

When asked if he expected more from an England international, Mourinho responded:

“Joe Hart is an English international and is playing on loan in Italy”.

There has been a long-running tension between player and coach ever since Mourinho arrived last summer and, in November, the Portuguese was less than subtle when questioning Shaw’s desire to play through the pain barrier after he made himself unavailable for a clash with Swansea.

“There is a difference between the brave, who want to play at any cost, and the ones for whom a little pain can make a difference”, Mourinho said at the time.

Shaw signed for United in the summer of 2014 for £27m but suffered an horrendous injury in a Champions League game against PSV Eindhoven the following year which kept him out of action for twelve months.
