Liverpool ask Premier League for Burnley fixture switch as work on Anfield continues

Don’t book your flights over to Liverpool on 20 August just yet.

LIVERPOOL ARE EXPLORING the possibility of switching their Premier League fixture against Burnley to Turf Moor as work continues on Anfield’s redevelopment.

The Merseyside club were handed a home game against the newly-promoted side in the second round of fixtures, which were announced this morning.

Liverpool have, however, asked Burnley to switch the game, scheduled for 20 August, to allow for any final construction work at Anfield to be completed.

If the request is declined by Burnley and the Premier League, the Reds will still stage the game at Anfield.

Liverpool had already requested to be given an away fixture for their first match of the new season as Anfield’s main stand is rebuilt, bringing the ground’s capacity to 54,000.

Should Burnley give the switch the green light, the sides will then play the reverse fixture at Anfield on 11 March 2017.

Jurgen Klopp’s side begin their campaign away to Arsenal.
