Roscommon are in search of their first Division 1 win, having lost to Tyrone and Donegal respectively. Mayo overcame Kerry in Tralee last time out, and will hope to build on that incredible result.

And we’re off.

Early threats from Roscommon but outstanding defending from Mayo. Meanwhile at the other end, Rochford’s charges have registered three wides in just two minutes.

Mayo waste another great chance. Four and a half minutes gone and the sides are still scoreless.

A score at each end – Roscommon hit first but Andy Moran responds for Mayo. Boyle’s Donie Smith then edges the visitors ahead.

Just one separating the sides. A great score from Roscommon at one side, but Cillian O’Connor responds accordingly at the other end of play.

Mayo are looking good on the attack following their early mistakes. A Roscommon error lands the ball into the hands of Cillian O’Connor who pops it over the bar to level the sides.

Mayo are winning the breaks and dirty ball around midfield. Andy Moran is awarded a free, which O’Connor slots over the bar. Fergal Boland gets his second of the day to put his side three up, showing real confidence.

Both Jason Gibbins and Cillian O’Connor send promising scores over the bar. Mayo are throwing the ball around comfortably. Rochford’s men are winning most of the Roscommon kickouts and continue to dominate around the middle.

Ballintubber’s Diarmuid O’Connor kicks a tremendous score and Mayo are looking impressive. Eight scores without an answer from Roscommon, they’re starved of possession up front. Meanwhile, Joe McQuillan has thrown out a black card to Roscommon midfielder Shane Killoran for a third-man tackle as Donie Smith hits his side’s first score in quite a while.

Roscommon are really struggling to get the ball past the middle of the field. McQuillan has handed out another black card – this time to a Mayo player, Colm Boyle, for an off the ball incident. Lee Keegan takes to the field following last weekend’s All-Ireland success, receiving a warm welcome.

Roscommon captain Ciaráin Murtagh grabs a much needed score, keeping his side in touch. Great team score at the other end finished by Donal Vaughan, with the help of Andy Moran’s work. Conor O’Shea hits another, while Roscommon have a good chance at the other end.

The Roscommon forwards have come back into it, an effort from Enda Smith cut out by a fantastic David Clarke save. Nothing comes of the resulting 45. Another goal chance as Roscommon open the Mayo defence, but Clarke comes to the rescue again. Still a 6-point game as we head for the break.

Elsewhere in Division 2, it’s Down 1-8 Meath 0-6 in Newry.

In Division 3 it’s Laois 0-6 Tipperary 0-7, while there’s two points between Carlow and Limerick in the Division 4 clash.

And we’re back! Early attacks from both sides. Cillian O’Connor has a goal chance, but blasts the post.

Mayo are awarded a penalty as Evan Regan is fouled. Cillian O’Connor makes no mistake in hitting the back of the net this time, leaving Lavin with no chance of saving.

Donie Smith claws one back for Roscommon. Maybe he should have went for a goal, but it’s a welcome score for McStay’s charges. Evan Regan responds through a free.

Mayo are well in control, despite registering 11 wides. The Mayo defence are on song this evening with Stephen Coen cleaning up. Tom Corcoran raises Roscommon hopes with their third point of the second half. Andy Moran is replaced by the young Conor Loftus.

Brendan Harrison is back from injury and receives a warm welcome at MacHale Park as he is introduced. Conor Devaney bags a point for the Rossies, but they need a goal. Lee Keegan sends over a tremendous score from a difficult angle off the side of his boot to the delight of the crowd. Shane Nally replaces Fergal Boland in the Mayo half-forward line.

David Clarke is forced to pull off another great save as Enda Smith gets in on goal, his brother Donie points the rebound.

Substitute Conor Loftus slots over a brilliant point. Meanwhile, Roscommon waste two chances. Brendan Harisson hits his second from play off the left.

Excellent save from Colm Lavin denies Mayo a further three points. Last year’s All-Ireland finalists lead by ten as we enter the closing minutes. Enda Smith sends a brilliant score over the bar, while Cian Connolly replaces Donie Smith.

Crossmolina’s Conor Loftus hits his second of the night. Tom Corcoran reduces the deficit to nine at the other end, while Lee Keegan adds to their woes and brings the difference back to double figures. Of Mayo’s 19 points, they’ve scored 17 from play.

Despite their impressive scoring from play, the amount of wides will not suffice in Croke Park next week as Mayo take on holders Dublin. The Rossies get one back, but Mayo are just playing down the clock at this stage.

The Mournemen end a run of 14 straight losses in competitive games with a surprise victory over Meath. Laois are beaten at home by Tipp, and a second half penalty is the difference between Carlow and Limerick.
