5 years before Munster beat the All Blacks, Limerick hurlers rucked to victory over Kilkenny

And Cody still won’t let it go.

THERE’S ALWAYS A lot made of the crossover skills from Gaelic Games to rugby when a player shows an ability to jump quite high or catch a ball.

It’s rare though, that we see the requisite skills for the oval ball game transfer the other way. Rare in the modern game at least.

The below clip from the 1973 All-Ireland senior hurling championship final was uploaded by Conor Ryan this week. Ryan writes in his video description that it was a goal remembered as notorious by Brian Cody (the number seven blocking the original shot) who likened it to a scrum.

It’s nothing like a scrum, but Mossie Dowling and Ned Rea put in a sterling effort to generate go-forward ball in that ruck and set the Treaty County on course for Liam and a 1 – 21 to 1 – 14 victory over the Cats.

It looks like this rampant Super Rugby ‘Jonah Lomu clone’ will be joining in the Pro12

Kieran Donaghy looked virtually unplayable in the Kerry league final last weekend
