The great escape is on! 10-man Limerick beat Bohemians in seven goal thriller

Bohs’ poor run of form continues with defeat at Market’s Field.

Bohemians 3

LIMERICK AND BOHEMIANS played out a bizarre game at Market’s Field with Martin Russell’s basement side coming out on top in a seven goal thriller.

Limerick took the lead after 27 minutes when Vinny Faherty notched his third goal in his last two games.

Ian Turner found space down the right and his cross found Faherty at the near post for the striker to power his header past Dean Delany via the underside of the crossbar.

The sides weren’t separated for long, however as Ismahil Akinade headed home unmarked before the break from Jake Kelly’s corner.

Five minutes into the second half, Akinade broke free behind the Limerick backline before being taken down by Patrick Kanyuka inside the box.

Referee Sean Grant issued a straight red to Kanyuka, before Kelly converted the spot kick.

Super sub Sean Russell came on soon after, and rocketed one in the top corner from twenty yards, before Kelly put the visitors back in front.

Limerick’s resilience shone through though – Lee-J Lynch scored from a poorly cleared corner, before the Market’s Field was sent into raptures.

Dean Clarke was then taken down with fifteen minutes to go, and Shane Tracy’s penalty came back off the post, but ricocheted off Delany and across the line to prolong Limerick’s great escape attempt.

Limerick: Freddy Hall; Shaun Kelly, Patrick Kanyuka, Robbie Williams, Shane Tracy; Shane Duggan; Ian Turner (Sean Russell, 56), Paul O’Conor, Lee-J Lynch, Dean Clarke (Darragh Rainsford, 86); Vinny Faherty.

Bohemians: Dean Delany; Anto Murphy (Robbie Creevy, 70), Derek Prendergast, Dave Mulcahy, Jason Caffrey; Roberto Lopes, Keith Buckley (Kealan Dillon, 88); Paddy Kavanagh, Jake Kelly, Karl Moore (Adam Evans, 70); Ismahil Akinade.

Referee: Sean Grant (Wexford)
