Ex-Ulster lock Stevenson joins Pro12 champions

The 32-year-old spent the second half of last season with Exeter.

CONNACHT HAVE CONTINUED their summer recruitment of Irish-qualified players today with the signing of Lewis Stevenson for the season ahead.

The 32-year-old lock was allowed to leave Ulster in January after 89 appearances for his home province and he played four times for Exeter Chiefs in the second half of last season – his second stint at the club.

Stevenson has immediately joined the Westerners squad for their pre-season training camp in France, which will feature a match against Montpellier.

“From meeting with Lewis, I have no doubt that he will fit in well to our environment. He has a lot to catch up on in a short space of time but he’s excited by the challenge,” says head coach Pat Lam, who will be without Quinn Roux and Ultan Dillane during international windows this term.

“Having played in the Premiership as well as the Pro12, he will bring something different and greatly boost our second row options.

“With our international locks coming in later to pre-season and other injuries affecting us in that area, it’s great to have Lewis with us in France this week ready to train and play.”
