Santa Cruz wants unification bout with Selby before taking on Frampton for a third time

The Mexican is hoping to face off against the Welshman this summer.

LEO SANTA CRUZ has indicated that he wants a title unification bout with Wales’s Lee Selby before taking on Carl Frampton for a third time.

Santa Cruz [33-1-1, 18KOs] ended Frampton’s unbeaten record with a majority decision victory in their second bout in Las Vegas five weeks ago and it had been expected that a third showdown between the pair was next on his agenda.

However, Santa Cruz has now suggested that a world featherweight title unification bout with IBF champion Selby is on the cards this summer.

“I think more likely first I would like to unify with Lee Selby,” Santa Cruz said.

“Selby is calling me out, so I want to make it with him and get the win and then fight [Abner] Mares or Frampton.

“I want to fight the best. There is Lee Selby, I want to unify against him, Abner Mares, Carl Frampton, I will fight any of them.

“But I think more likely first I would like to unify with Lee Selby, I don’t know about a date yet, but maybe June, July, or August. We will talk about it.”

Belfast native Frampton has also been linked with a Selby showdown.
