Ireland U16 captain Lee O'Connor joins Man United from local Waterford club

He follows in the footsteps of John O’Shea.

MANCHESTER UNITED HAVE signed highly-rated Ireland underage international Lee O’Connor.

The 15-year-old will join the Premier League side’s academy from Villa Football Club in Waterford.

O’Connor, who was recently named FAI U15 Player of the Year, is an attacking full-back and will follow in the footsteps of John O’Shea in moving to Old Trafford.

He will become the second Irishman to join Nicky Butt’s academy set-up with defender Jimmy Dunne on the books since July 2014.

O’Connor is currently the Ireland U16 captain and has also represented the Boys in Green at U17 level. He will begin training with Man United in July.
