The standard is high but there's surely a clear goal of the month winner

It was looking good for Patrick McEleney until Conan Byrne spotted Shane Supple off his line.

THE FIRST FULL month of SSE Airtricity League action of 2017 produced some superb strikes, as evident from the nominees for March’s goal of the month competition.

Dundalk’s Patrick McEleney appeared to be on course to take the award, with his solo effort against St Patrick’s Athletic slightly more impressive than his screamer against Limerick.

Cork City’s Stephen Dooley and Karl Sheppard, Shamrock Rovers duo David McAllister and Ronan Finn, and Limerick’s Paul O’Connor are also in contention.

But thanks to an incredible goal from inside his own half against Bohemians on the final weekend in March, Conan Byrne of St Pat’s surely has this wrapped up.

Check out the goals above and make your own selection.
