Belgian cyclist escapes serious injury after frightening crash at Tour of Lombardy

Quick Step rider Laurens de Plus has been hospitalised, but is not seriously injured.

BELGIAN CYCLIST LAURENS de Plus somehow managed to escape serious injury after this frightening crash at the Tour of Lombardy on Saturday.

De Plus, a team-mate of Dan Martin’s at Quick Step Cycling, was chasing race leader Mikael Cheryl with 40km to go when he lost control of his bike and slammed into the guardrail.

The momentum vaulted both De Plus and his bike over the rail and onto the drop on the other side.

The 22-year-old was quickly attended to by race doctors and transported to hospital, with Quick Step confirming that he suffered “no serious injuries”.
