La Liga will join Bundesliga and Serie A as VAR to be introduced in Spain next season

The Spanish top flight has confirmed plans to use video assistant referee technology during the 2018-19 campaign

VIDEO ASSISTANT REFREE (VAR) technology will be implemented in La Liga for the start of next season, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has confirmed.

La Liga president Javier Tebas claimed on Tuesday that the system will be introduced โ€œfor sureโ€ next term and this announcement sees that revelation rubber-stamped.

VAR allows referees the opportunity to review an incident with the assistance of video footage, theoretically improving their chances of getting decisions correct.

This move means La Liga joins the German Bundesliga and Italyโ€™s Serie A in bringing the technology in, as the Spanish authorities look to eradicate controversies.

A statement read: โ€The president of the refereeโ€™s committee, Mr. Victoriano Sanchez Arminio, has informed all the referees and assistant referees in the Primera Division that next season VAR will be implemented in the national league championship.

โ€œHe also announced that the tests demanded by the International Football Association Board (IFAB) to bring the VAR system into use will begin shortly.โ€

Absolutely terrible decision that has to be a red card , high speed neck high challenge to stop a goal scoring opportunity. Very generous refereeing for Galway in that first half

That was one seriously dangerous challenge and he should have walked . The short conversation with linesman had me convinced he was gone.

Galway canโ€™t complain about refereeing, got 2 points from soft overcarrying decisions and should have had 14 men for the whole 2nd half

It was disgusting to see half of the Kilkenny crowd leave before the cup was presented, talk about arrogance.
Galway could have won it but the Cats โ€˜re the best for a reason, great second half display by them.

Great Galway display, against an indisputable set of Kilkenny legends. No doubt about that. But just remember a little stat (to the knockers!). Galway= all Ireland Intermediate champs, All Ireland Minor Champs and 2nd best Seniors in the country and all for 2015. And the Ladies Camogie has to come yet in the all Irelandโ€ฆ Not bad stats? So, Galway, well done, a credit to yourselves. And under great leadership.
