Steph Curry-inspired premature celebration really backfires on Klay Thompson

Keep your eye on the ball, youngfella.

GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS point guard Steph Curry is on fire these days in the NBA, so it’s pretty understandable for his team-mates to assume that the ball is going to end up in the basket when he’s wide open on the edge of the three-point line. Right?

Wrong. Curry, who broke the NBA record for the number of three-pointers scored by a player in one season last month, was in that very position during last night’s game against Dallas Mavericks.

However, the 28-year-old was probably a bit too unselfish as he decided to pass the opportunity on to shooting guard Klay Thompson instead. The problem? Thompson had already wheeled away in celebration.

Nevertheless, Thompson more than made amends for his error. He chipped in with 40 points in the 128-120 victory, which means the 65-7 Warriors are now eight wins away from breaking the all-time record of 72 wins in a season, set by the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls.

One record they did break last night was for the most three-pointers by a team in one season, moving to 938 for the campaign. The previous record of 933 was set by Houston Rockets just last season.
