KILKENNY NARROWLY PREVAILED against Clare in a high-scoring clash at Nowlan Park today but the teams are going to face off again next weekend in the relegation final.
Kilkenny already knew they were set to battle in the relegation decider before today’s clash but Clare still had hope they could survive if they won and Dublin lost. However the results conspired against them meaning it’ll be a battle between Brian Cody and Davy Fitzgerald’s sides to see who will avoid the drop.
Clare were in front by 2-9 to 1-9 at the interval thanks to a brace of goals from Shane O’Donnell in the opening period. Clare had at one juncture in the opening period lead by 1-5 to 0-2 but Kevin Kelly, who struck 1-9 overall, was central to Kilkenny’s comeback and he fired home a first-half goal.

Clare cut the deficit again when Seadna Morey and Conor Cleary raised white flags but despite winning a late penalty, Tony Kelly’s shot was blocked and Kilkenny held on to triumph.
