MAYO AND KILDARE were drawn together in Round 3B of the All-Ireland Football Qualifiers this morning, a match-up even rarer than Sam Maguire wins for the pair.
Indeed, the two sides have only met once before in the championship with Kildare coming out on top 2-6 to 0-7 in 1935.
Footage from that All-Ireland semi-final, filmed by British Pathé, emerged last year but it’s well worth another look just to see how different the game was played then with an awful lot of action more akin to soccer — complete with a dive at about 1:15 — than Gaelic football.
Kildare would go on to lose the decider to Cavan.
The British Pathe You Tube channel is brilliant but dangerous..
You start off looking at newsreels of the week and wind up 5 hours later looking at something random about life in 1950′s Egypt, never mind all the sporting footage.
Still better than yesterday’s Connacht final
I never thought I’d laugh watching Gaelic football. That is gold! Not a solo or a hop the whole video!
Ara here, lad went down like a bag of spuds at 1:17. Diving isn’t a new thing.
How bouncy was that ball??? Lads afraid to hold onto it in case they would get flaked!
