Watch: Brilliant footage from Kildare and Mayo's only ever championship meeting

The British Pathe footage from 1935 is remarkably clear.

MAYO AND KILDARE were drawn together in Round 3B of the All-Ireland Football Qualifiers this morning, a match-up even rarer than Sam Maguire wins for the pair.

Indeed, the two sides have only met once before in the championship with Kildare coming out on top 2-6 to 0-7 in 1935.

Footage from that All-Ireland semi-final, filmed by British Pathé, emerged last year but it’s well worth another look just to see how different the game was played then with an awful lot of action more akin to soccer — complete with a dive at about 1:15 — than Gaelic football.

Kildare would go on to lose the decider to Cavan.
