CIAN O’NEILL’S KILDARE got their Division 3 promotion push off to a winning start against Westmeath in Mullingar.
Playing into the wind, the Lilywhites hit 2-6 in an impressive first half including goals from Daniel Flynn and Cian O’Donoghue.
They led by four at the break, 2-6 to 0-8, and held on to win as both sides managed just three points apiece in a low-scoring second period.

In Tullamore, Longford were shut out entirely in the second half as Offaly came from behind to pick up an opening win.
The visitors led 0-10 to 0-7 at the break but failed to register a single score from that point on as Offaly ran out two-point winners.
In Miltown Malbay, Gary Brennan’s goal helped Clare beat Sligo by double scores, 1-11 to 0-7.
And in Kilmallock, Ian Ryan’s ninth and final point of the day snatched a 1-12 to 2-9 draw for Limerick against Tipperary.
