KEVIN KILBANE BELIEVES Chris Forrester has the potential to follow in the footsteps of James McClean and Seamus Coleman by becoming a senior Republic of Ireland international.
Forrester drew plaudits from Kilbane during Peteborough United’s FA Cup fourth-round replay clash with West Bromwich Albion last night, which the League One side lost on penalties after a 1-1 draw in extra time.
“He’s been compared to Michael Carrick by the [Peterborough] owners and [manager Graham] Westley himself — it’s about building up the profile of players,” the former Ireland international said on BBC television.

“He’s stepped in from the League of Ireland and he’s another one that could be potentially pushing on for the Irish squad in the next few years.”
Kilbane also noted Forrester’s eye for goal, commenting on the former Ireland U21 international’s record at St Patrick’s Athletic, where he hit 37 league goals from midfield over the course of four seasons.
“He’s got quite a decent goal-scoring record in the League of Ireland,” said the former Everton and Sunderland midfielder.
“He’s 23, he’s established himself playing men’s football over in Ireland and he’s come over to England to go and progress. He’s certainly impressive.”
The Dublin native has made 30 appearances for Peterborough United since joining from St Pat’s, scoring two goals.
