Celtic's youngest-ever captain hits 45-yard wonder-goal

20-year-old Kieran Tierney struck a sensational long-range effort in last night’s 5-0 win over Kilmarnock.

CELTIC BOSS BRENDAN Rodgers handed the skipper’s armband to Kieran Tierney as the holders began their defence of the Scottish League Cup last night.

In doing so, the 20-year-old became the club’s youngest-ever captain for the visit of Kilmarnock to Parkhead.

And the hugely-talented defender, who was playing at centre-half, repaid his manager with a phenomenal goal as Celtic eased to a 5-0 victory.

After Leigh Griffiths (2) and Anthony Ralston had got their names on the scoresheet, Tierney unleashed an unstoppable strike into the top corner from all of 45 yards midway through the second half.

Stuart Armstrong then capped off the win with a fifth.

He’s a talent who is only going to get better,” Rodgers told BBC Scotland.

“It was a spectacular goal and at this stage of the season it will be right up there, he had to have been 40 yards out and the power was phenomenal.”
