Kevin Doyle's career in English football is over as he cuts ties with Wolves a month early

The Wexford native is off to Colorado to begin his MLS adventure.

KEVIN DOYLE IS packing his bags for the USA this evening.

The Ireland striker has agreed a settlement with Wolves to release him from his contract which was due to run up until the end of June.

Doyle will now join Colorado Rapids ahead of schedule, the Championship outfit said in a statement.

“As a result of this free agent status, Colorado Rapids have moved to take Doyle earlier than expected ahead of next week’s MLS transfer deadline. As reported previously, everyone at Wolves would like to thank Kevin for his service at Molineux and wish him all the best for the future.”

The agreement marks the end of the Wexford native’s decade-long stay in England having joined Reading from Cork City where he enjoyed a promotion-winning season under Steve Coppell in 05-06.

Colorado say Doyle will join them in the coming weeks.

“We always thought this might be a possibility if Wolves did not achieve their target of promotion,” said Paul Bravo, VP of Soccer Operations and Technical Director in a statement.

“We know he is a proven goalscorer at a high level. We are confident he will not only help our younger players in their progression but also add to the group.

“We’d like to thank Wolves for their cooperation throughout this process and we wish them the best of luck next season. Meanwhile we look forward to welcoming Kevin to our club later this month.”
