IRELAND STRIKER Kevin Doyle says it’s time for a new challenge as he prepares for a move to the MLS this summer.
Colorado Rapids confirmed they’ve signed the Wexford native with Doyle heading for the US after the Championship season.
“I would have said no chance,” the Wolves forward said on Soccer AM this morning. “I’m out of contract so I was thinking what my plans are, where will I go, what am I going to do.

“They showed an interest. My wife was due — she had a baby a couple of weeks ago — and we have a two-year-old. So when I heard about it, I was like ah no I can’t move my kids to America, they’re too young.
“But they said listen, come out and have a look. So I said okay and Wolves were good enough to let me go, I went for two days. Class, facilities are unreal. So they sold it to me and I can’t wait to start.”
Doyle left Cork City a decade ago where he made an immediate impact with Reading and earned international caps. The transfer to America’s growing league may again kickstart his career.
“It’s just a change,” he says. “I’ve been in England 10 years this end of the season. I’ve played in the different leagues so I thought I’d like to try something different.
“When Robbie comes back with Ireland, especially at the beginning everyone’s like ‘what’s it like’. And everyone’s very keen; even with me and the lads at Wolves, everyone wants to know about the MLS. It seems to really be interesting people.

Robbie’s full praise for it and he’s done fantastic since he’s been there. To do something like that would be nice.”
Asked by Helen Chamberlain if he’ll be taking up the option of a loan at Arsenal while at the Stan Kroenke-owned Rapids, Doyle said: “I’m going to have a nice Christmas off. 10 years without being in Ireland, I’m gonna have a nice few weeks at home with the family.”
