This Man City captain from your childhood is now the best-dressed man in English football

It’s the glasses that pull the whole look together.

FANS OF FOOTBALL fashion have been left with precious few beacons to follow in recent seasons.

For a long time, Jose Mourinho was the shining light to follow. But his experience at Real Madrid tore at his soul until his elegant touchline-prowling, coat and scarf-sporting silhouette was replaced with a disheveled man in a tracksuit, flip-flops and socks.

Well, thanks to last night’s Capital One Cup action, a new heir to the title of English football’s most dapper gaffer has emerged.

The name Keith Curle usually leads us to think wistfully back to the mid-90s Manchester City team that included Niall Quinn, Alan Kernaghan and Terry Phelan.

These days, Curle is over a decade in to management and was on Sky Sports News this morning to gloat about his League Two Carlisle United side’s 2 – 1 win over QPR in last night’s League Cup second round.

He gloated in so much style though! Look at that tweed jacket, crisp shirt. Look at those Les Kiss / Jurgen Klopp-style sports nerd spectacles to contrast his curly grey hair.

We’re sure to see more of Curle’s class in the near future too as Carlisle were rewarded with a trip to Anfield in the third round draw.

Is there a better dressed man or manager in English football?

When does the summer transfer window close and why is it later than usual this year?
