The fight will be the final one of Underwood’s illustrious amateur career before she turns professional. The Seattle native has been crowned US national champion a remarkable nine times but never managed to get the better of Ireland’s Olympic gold medallist in their three previous meetings.
Most memorably Taylor edged a classic battle in the semi-finals of the 2010 World Championships, coming from behind in the dying seconds to snatch a win en route to the third of her five world titles.
Underwood was then billed as one of Taylor’s biggest threats at London 2012 before losing to Natasha Jonas in the first round. The 31-year-old did not take part in the US Olympic trials this time around, and will not be part of Billy Walsh’s squad for Rio.
The Tralee show will be the second in a 24-hour blitz for Taylor as she dials up preparations for the European Olympic qualifiers in Turkey in April.
She returns to the ring the previous night, 19 February, against Sweden’s Jelena Jelic in an event hosted by Kanturk Boxing Club in Dromtariffe Community Hall.
