Make room for a heap of medals in Thomond Park.

OLYMPIC AND EUROPEAN lightweight champion Katie Taylor says she would love to fight on the undercard of Andy Lee’s upcoming title bout in Thomond Park.

Lee will fight Billy Joe Saunders on 19 September in the Limerick stadium in the first defence of his WBO middleweight title and Taylor, who remains an amateur, has been sound out about help building up to the world title bout.

“There’s talks about it at the moment, but nothing set in stone,” Taylor told the Anton Savage show on TodayFM six days on from claiming gold at the inaugural European Games in Baku.

“I’d love to fight on the undercard of Andy Lee, 30,000 people at Thomond Park.

“He’s a great ambassador for the sport. It would be a privilege to fight on the undercard - I hope that can happen.”

As for a prediction for her fellow Irish champ, Taylor summed up the 31-year-old in simple terms:

“You never bet against Andy Lee: he’s got good power, good heart and a good chin.”
