Andy Lee still hopeful Katie Taylor will appear on Thomond undercard

The decision is out of the Olympic gold medallist’s hands.

ON 19 SEPTEMBER, WBO middleweight champion Andy Lee defends his world title against Billy Joe Saunders but it’s still unclear if Katie Taylor will be part of the bill.

While much of the focus has been on hometown boy Lee, the fighter himself has revealed he’d love to see the Olympic gold medallist on the undercard at Munster’s Thomond Park.

“I’d like to have Katie Taylor there. I’m very proud of what she’s done and the whole country is too,” Lee told the Irish Examiner.

However, while Taylor is said to be interested in fighting on the night, the amateur would need the approval of both the Amateur International Boxing Association and Irish Amateur Boxing Association.

Lee’s trainer and promoter Adam Booth says that, while discussions are “not yet positive or negative,” they are continuing.
