AMERICAโ€™S NEXT POOL superstar Katie Ledecky didnโ€™t just win 400m freestyle gold tonight; she turned it into a procession inside the first 100m.

Ledecky obliterated her own world record โ€” and the rest of the field โ€” as she took her first gold medal of the Rio 2016 Olympics in a jaw-dropping 3:56.46.

Not only was that 1.91 seconds faster than her previous best and world record but it was more than four full seconds quicker than her nearest rival, Great Britainโ€™s Jazz Carlin, who took silver in 4:01.23.

Americaโ€™s Leah Smith was third in 4:01.92.
