AMERICA’S NEXT POOL superstar Katie Ledecky didn’t just win 400m freestyle gold tonight; she turned it into a procession inside the first 100m.
Ledecky obliterated her own world record — and the rest of the field — as she took her first gold medal of the Rio 2016 Olympics in a jaw-dropping 3:56.46.
Not only was that 1.91 seconds faster than her previous best and world record but it was more than four full seconds quicker than her nearest rival, Great Britain’s Jazz Carlin, who took silver in 4:01.23.
America’s Leah Smith was third in 4:01.92.
