Juan Mata to join Man United squad in London after attending family funeral

The Red Devils midfielder did not travel with the team to the capital ahead of the EFL Cup final at Wembley but will be available on Sunday.

JUAN MATA WILL join up with the Manchester United squad in London after attending his grandfather’s funeral, Goal.com are this evening reporting.

The Red Devils midfielder did not travel with the squad ahead of the EFL Cup final at Wembley on Sunday but will be available for selection against Southampton.

Concerns had arisen among fans as photos of the team arriving in London did not include Mata and speculation spread the playmaker would not be in the side for the final.

However, Mata, who has scored nine goals in all competitions for the Red Devils this season, will return in time for the contest.

United will still be without Henrikh Mkhitaryan for the final, but will have Michael Carrick available for Jose Mourinho while Wayne Rooney will be in the matchday squad.

The Red Devils are looking to add a second trophy for the season with a victory, having won the Community Shield against Leicester City in August by a 2-1 scoreline.
