IRISH JOCKEY JOHN Thomas McNamara, better known as JT, has died at the age of 41.
A leading amateur rider, McNamara was seriously injured after being thrown from Galaxy Rock at the 2013 Cheltenham festival.
The Limerick native was paralysed from the neck down after fracturing two vertebrae as a result of the fall in the Kim Muir Challenge Cup.
McNamara was one of the most celebrated amateur riders in Ireland with over 600 career wins and four Cheltenham festival victories to his name.
He won the 2002 National Hunt Chase on Rith Dubh and the same race again ten years later on Teaforthree.
Between those successes he won the Cross Country Chase with Spot Thedifference in 2005 and the 2007 Fox Hunter Chase on Drombea.
It was reported that he suffered complications on Friday night and was transferred to University Hospital Limerick before being discharged to spend his final days at home with his family.
McNamara is survived by his wife Caroline and three children.
