IRELAND INTERNATIONAL JON Walters won’t be leaving Stoke City this month despite handing in a transfer request.

The versatile forward, who has been with the club since 2010, looked set for the exit door on deadline day after voicing his frustration at the Potters’ latest contract offer.

Norwich City reportedly had two offers rejected for the 31-year-old, while Leicester City were also believed to be interested. However, neither agreed a deal with Stoke before the transfer window closed at 6pm this evening.

Walters confirmed that he will remain at the Britannia Stadium, jokingly tweeting that Man United boss Louis van Gaal has missed out on his signature. He will now link up with the Ireland squad ahead of Friday’s Euro 2016 qualifier against Gibraltar.
