Channel 4′s Jon Snow subjected Coe to a hard-hitting interview last night and questioned his suitability as IAAF President. Coe’s predecessor Lamine Diack is under scrutiny for allegedly taking payments in return for reduced sanctions against Russian athletes.
“You were deputy president, you were the number two in the entire outfit, and yet you made no effort to scour the place for drugs,” Snow asserted.
Coe replied, “No Jon, I was vice-president in an organisation but those allegations, as Dick Pound said today himself, they have come as a shock to all of us.”
But Snow shot back: “People will say there are only two choices here: either you were asleep on the job or corrupt. Which is it?”
