Jon Jones' UFC return will be a rematch with Daniel Cormier at UFC 197

The former light heavyweight title holder will get a chance to win his belt back.

JON JONES WILL make his return to the UFC in a light heavyweight championship rematch with Daniel Cormier at UFC 197 on 23 April in Las Vegas.

Jones (21-1), became the first UFC champion to lose his title for disciplinary reasons when he was stripped of the belt in April 2015 after he was arrested on hit-and-run charges in New Mexico.

His last fight prior to that was when he successfully defended his 205lb title against Cormier in January last year and was only reinstated by the organisation last October.

Cormier (17-1) won the title by beating Anthony Johnson at UFC 187 but barely held on to it in his first defence when he won a split decision with Alexander Gustafsson.

The news was announced during last night’s UFC event and Jones’ reaction suggests he’s itching to get back into the Octagon with the poster for the fight showing him in the unusual position as challenger:
