Lescott gave former club helping hand but Mirallas spurned opportunity from the spot

It finished 0-0 at Goodison.

AFTER FORMER EVERTON defender Joleon Lescott gifted his former club a glorious opportunity to take the lead in the Monday Night Football, Kevin Mirallas fluffed his lines and sent his spot-kick wide.

It seemed Mirallas took the ball away from regular penalty taker Leighton Baines before firing his effort past Ben Foster’s upright. It typified a dour half of football at Goodison Park as Everton’s recent struggles continue.

At half-time, Gary Neville heavily criticised Mirallas for what he believed was a “despicable breach of team and management orders.”

“You can punch someone or break someone’s leg but to go against team orders is the worst kind of offence,” Neville added.

Mirallas was replaced at the interval by Roberto Martinez. Baines has missed just one of his 16 penalties in the Premier League.
