Ireland's Jon Walters set to leave Stoke after handing in transfer request - reports

IRELAND INTERNATIONAL JON Walters looks set to leave Stoke in the next 24 hours, with Sky Sports reporting that the player has handed in a transfer request.

Walters — who was conspicuous by his absence at Ireland training this afternoon — is in a dispute with the Potters over a new deal, with the attacker understood to be unhappy with the length of a new contract on offer.

Stoke have reportedly already rejected two bids rejected from Norwich, while Tony Pulis’ West Brom have also been linked with the 31-year-old, and Walters is now understood to have acted in a bid to push through a move.

Any deal would end a five-year association with Stoke, after Walters joined the club from Ipswich for a reported fee of £2.75 million on 18 August 2010. The Merseyside-born striker has since scored 34 goals in 178 appearances for his current club.

Meanwhile, the Irish Independent reports that two other Irish players could be on the move, with Cardiff’s Eoin Doyle linked with Preston, while Ireland U21 defender Sean Hoare could leave St Pat’s to join either Swansea or Portsmouth.
