'Ultimate Connacht Man' John Muldoon named captain for new season

It was the job of at least three men last season, but John Muldoon will do it all by himself this time around.

CONNACHT HAVE TODAY confirmed that veteran back row John Muldoon will captain the side for the coming season.

The 31-year-old Ireland international was one of three captains named (along with Michael Swift and Gavin Duffy) at the beginning of Pat Lam’s first year in charge

However, the retirement of Duffy and Craig Clarke have dwindled the leadership at Lam’s disposal and made Muldoon an obvious choice for the solo role.

“John Muldoon is the ultimate Connacht man and the natural choice for captain,” Lam said of the blindside.

“His performances last year were of a consistently high standard week in week out which is what you want from your captain.

“John embodies every single one of our values and is someone who demands huge respect on and off the field. For the new and younger players coming in, he leads by example and is the ideal person to guide the team in the new season.”
