Cork turn to Meyler to guide their U21 hurlers for the next two years

The Rebels haven’t won an All-Ireland in the grade since 1998 or a Munster title since 2007.

CORK HAVE APPOINTED John Meyler as the county’s new U21 hurling manager for the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

St Finbarr’s club man Meyler was confirmed in the position at a meeting of the Cork county board last night.

Meyler has extensive management experience having held senior hurling positions with Wexford, Kerry and Carlow over the last decade.

He was previously a Cork senior selector as well, while at club level in the county he has won hurling titles with Courcey Rovers and Ballinhassig.

The father of Irish soccer international David, he also enjoyed success in winning senior hurling championships with Kerry club Kilmoyley.

Cork’s recent record in the U21 hurling grade has been poor. They have not won a Munster title at that level since 2007, while in the last two seasons they have been defeated at the quarter-final stage in the province by Waterford and Limerick respectively.
