John Cleary has withdrawn from the race to be the next Cork football manager

The Rebels will have to look elsewhere.

JOHN CLEARY WILL not be the next Cork football boss, according to reports this morning.

Kieran McCarthy reports in today’s The Southern Star that the former Rebels U21 boss has decided not to allow his name to go forward.

The two-time All-Ireland winner was seen as the clear favourite to succeed Brian Cuthbert on Leeside.

He had also been in the mix for the job two years ago.

Time commitments are understood to be at the core of the decision for the self-employed Cleary.

Frank Murphy and the selection committee will now have to look elsewhere with the likes of Ephie Fitzgerald of Nemo Rangers, Douglas clubman Ronan McCarthy and Duhallow coach Ned English in the running.
