An ex-Aston Villa striker is the leading man in a Norwegian gangster film

John Carew, who scored 40 goals during his time in England, plays bad boy Ivan in new film Hovdinger.

FORMER ASTON VILLA and Valencia striker John Carew has landed a lead role in a Norwegian gangster movie.

Carew, who won La Liga and Ligue 1 during his career, announced his retirement back in October 2013 after being released by West Ham. Since then, he has turned his attention to the silver screen and has already starred in two films to date- - Et døgn med Elin and Dead of Winter

In his new film Hovdinger, the 35-year-old plays hired-muscle Ivan. Describing his part in a recent interview, Carew said that ”it’s a fun and interesting role. I would compare myself with Will Smith and ‘The Rock’ perhaps.”
