IT’S LOOKING LIKE South Africa’s assistant coach Johann van Graan will take over from Rassie Erasmus as Munster’s Director of Rugby.
According to reports in The Irish Times, the current Springboks forwards coach will link up with the southern province after the Rugby Championships.
Erasmus is set to finish his stint at Thomond Park at the end of December, so it’s believed that Van Graan – who has formerly worked with the Bulls — will have the chance to work alongside him for a period.
“Van Graan, or ‘Aap’ as his friends like to call him, has no experience as a Director of Rugby or head coach, but is highly regarded within South African playing circles for his detailed analysis and relationship-building with players,” writes Gerry Thornley.
Fellow South African Dave Wessels was highly tipped for the job, but it appears that he’ll stay in Australia.
