Kernan, Ó Sé, Joyce and Earley to form new Irish International Rules management team

Armagh’s Joe Kernan has taken the main role.

2002 ARMAGH ALL-Ireland winning boss Joe Kernan has been confirmed today as the new manager of the Ireland International Rules team.

The announcement was made at a press conference in Croke Park and will see Kernan take over from Paul Earley, who has guided Ireland for the last two series. Ireland will play Australia in a one-test series this year in Croke Park on 21 November.

Pádraic Joyce and Darragh O’Se will serve as his selectors while Dermot Earley will also form part of the back room team.

Kernan made his name first in club management when he guided Crossmaglen Rangers to AIB All-Ireland senior club football titles in 1997, 1999 and 2000. From there he went on to be appointed as Armagh manager in November 2001 before steering them to their All-Ireland senior football final success over Kerry in 2002.

He also won four Ulster senior crowns and a National League with Armagh. In recent years Kernan has been involved as manager of the Ulster team in the inter-provincial series.
