MORECAMBE FC BOSS Jim Bentley hasn’t had much to shout about lately, but Saturday brought some badly-needed positivity for the manager of the side who went into their game at home to Notts County in 19th place in League Two.

Despite winning just two of their 10 previous games, Morecambe ran out 4-1 winners to overtake Hartlepool United and Crewe Alexandra and move up to 17th place in the table.

Bentley wasn’t in the dugout for Saturday’s game after receiving a fine and a two-match ban from the Football Association for improper conduct during his team’s recent defeat to Cheltenham Town. He was sent to the stands on 17 December as a result of his reaction to the sending-off of Morecambe player Alex Kenyon.

Morecambe fans had a collection on Saturday to pay the £1,000 sum of fines and costs from the FA’s charge against Bentley, who is immensely popular among supporters of the Lancashire outfit having also represented the club over 300 times as a player.

Bentley was left speechless after the game when the money was presented to him.
