20 years to the day since Nayim, Jermaine Beckford put himself in the halfway line club

JERMAINE BECKFORD WAS the hero of Deepdale today as he helped Preston North End into the League One play-off final with a brace in a 3 – 0 win over Chesterfield.

Preston led the tie 1 – 0 on aggregate going in to the second leg today, so the contest was already swinging their way when Beckford put the icing on the cake with a glorious lob from just inside the Chesterfield half to make it 3 – 0 to PNE on the day.

Even the slip counldn’t deny the striker on loan from Bolton. And, in a lovely coincidence, his strike came on the anniversary of one of the most famous goals from distance.

It was 20 years ago today when Nayim volleyed from NOWHERE NEAR the halfway line against Arsenal to deliver the 1995 Cup Winners Cup to Real Zaragoza.
