SKY SPORTS PRESENTER Jeff Stelling got his way this afternoon when it was announced that Hartlepool United manager Dave Jones has left the club.
Stelling, a lifelong Poolie and the club’s honorary president, has been heavily-critical of Jones with the League Two outfit facing relegation from the Football League as things stand.
A 2-0 defeat to Barnet over the weekend means Jones picked up just 13 points from a possible 51 since his appointment in January. During that time, Hartlepool managed four wins.

That result prompted a passionate rant from Stelling on Soccer Saturday as he called for Jones to step down from his position.
“Let me just say, I’m wearing the Hartlepool United tie today,” Stelling said. “We lost at home, we’re in the relegation places and this is not personal, Dave.
“But Dave Jones, for God’s sake and for the good of the club, walk now. This is not your level of football. Pam Duxbury, the chairman Gary Coxall, if he won’t then sack him.
“If it means me resigning as president, I’ll do so happily. Do it now, do it today.”

And, this afternoon, the club announced that Jones and his assistant managers Alex Armstrong and Kevin Cooper have departed “by mutual consent”.
Matthew Bates will now take charge for the final two games of the season, with the help of Billy Paynter, Stuart Parnaby and Ian Gallagher.
