LEAGUE OF IRELAND club Wexford Youths have acquired the services of Jason Ryan as strength and conditioning coach as they begin their preparations for the new season.
The former Kildare football manager will be part of the coaching staff at Ferrycarrig Park for the next two months in the build-up to the club’s debut Premier Division campaign.
Ryan stepped down as Lilywhite boss after almost eight years in inter-county management in August and will put Shane Keegan’s newly-promoted side through their paces ahead of the league opener against Longford on Friday 4 March.
“Wexford Youths FC are thrilled to announce that former Wexford & Kildare Gaelic Football Manager Jason Ryan has joined Shane Keegan’s Wexford Youths Premier Division Squad as Strength & Conditioning Coach for their 2016 Pre-Season Training Programme,” a club statement read.
“Jason took the lead in the Youths first training session of the year at Ferrycarrig Park last night. Jason brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise with him and he will be putting the first team squad through their paces for the next 2 months.”
Wexford were crowned First Division champions last season and will play in the top-flight for the first time in 2016.
Return to premier division? It’s Wexford’s first time in the top flight lads.
An ex P.E. teacher when he worked in Strawberry Hill in London. Teaching now I believe in Dungarvan. Brings great experience from managing both Wexford and Kildare in the Gaelic football. Very likeable person. Should be interesting to see how Wexford Youths get on this season. Spot Murphy and Danny Furlong should be a formidable force up front. They do well could end up getting a few more lads around the Wexford district league. Hon Wexford !
