Jarryd Hayne's first touch in the NFL didn't go to plan at all

Rugby league convert recovers from nightmare start as 49ers get opening win.

ALL EYES — IN America and Australia — were on Jarryd Hayne last night.

The Aussie rugby league star made his first NFL appearance as the San Francisco 49ers beat the Minnesota Vikings 20-3.

But his first competitive touch as a pro footballer didn’t go to plan at all.

Hayne was sent in to return a punt in the first quarter but appeared to misjudge the flight of the ball and then fumbled it for a Vikings recovery:

Fortunately for Hayne, the turnover didn’t lead to a Vikings score.

And with his nerves settled, he bounced back and made the most of his few touches at running back, finishing with 13 yards off four carries, including this nine-yarder:
