Six weeks after his NFL debut, rugby league convert Jarryd Hayne has been cut

Hayne, 27, is now eligible to be picked up by another NFL franchise.

JARRYD HAYNE HAS been cut by the San Francisco 49ers, the organisation confirmed this evening.

Hayne made headlines earlier this year when he quit his rugby league career in Australia and turned to American football, landing a pro contract with the 49ers.

He appeared in six games, mainly as a punt returner and a running back, but was waived so that Kendall Gaskins could be promoted to the team’s 53-man active roster.

The 49ers have struggled to a 2-5 start and currently lie bottom of the NFC West.

Hayne, 27, is now eligible to be picked up by another NFL franchise or, if he is not claimed, could re-sign to the 49ers’ practice squad.
